McKimmon Memories

“I worked at the McKimmon Center from 1990 to 1997. The McKimmon Center is among my favorite places I have ever worked. The staff and mission were and are superb, and the Center has made a real difference to the state of North Carolina. I wish everyone all the best on this important occasion.”
     – Edgar Marston, Former Director, Continuing & Professional Education, McKimmon Center for Extension & Continuing Education, NC State University

“The McKimmon Staff have long been one of my favorite groups. I have fond memories of working with them on strategic planning and in team building retreats. They work hard, but have fun doing it.”
     – Richard Liles, Director Emeritus of Personal and Organizational Development, Personal and Organizational Development, NC State University

“I spent some of my early working days with IES instructing in the McKimmon computer labs. Except in those days, “computer lab” meant instructor brought his own computers. We had beefy “portables” that students shared two persons to a keyboard. Move in/move out for every class.”
     – Gene Fornaro, Senior Engineer, Extension Specialist & Director, Business Development, Industrial Extension Service Operations, NC State University

“When I first came to the McKimmon Center 20 years ago, I could sit in my office and hear the roosters crowing in the chicken houses on the other side of the driveway. They crowed all day not just at sun up.”
     – Wanda Simmons, Research Associate II, Center for Urban Affairs & Community Services, McKimmon Center for Extension & Continuing Education, NC State University

“There is not enough time or words to describe every great memory I have for and with McKimmon Center. The main reason is working with the wonderful, outstanding, and awesome Accounting Staff at Continuing Education. They are always a delight, always helpful, always professional, always going the extra mile. I always have a smile on my face when I need to contact McKimmon Center. The Accounting Group was also very supportive during my time of need: when I went through cancer treatment, when my house was destroyed due to fire, and when my son passed away last year. This wonderful group was my strength, my support and my angels in disguise. They are always willing and eager to help anyone at anytime, whenever needed. Congratulations on your 30th anniversary and hopefully I will be around to celebrate your next big anniversary.”
     – Valerie Ryan, Accounting Technician III, University Controller’s Office, NC State University

“So many staff celebrations and recognition events have been held at the McKimmon Center! There are many fond memories!”
     – Susan Grant, Director, University Housing, NC State University

“My fondest memory was when we had a Christmas party here at McKimmon and it was entitled “That’s Entertainment.” It was amazing to see how one person could convince even directors to get on stage and lip synch to the Village People’s ‘YMCA’ and even Denis [Jackson] and John Cudd were the Blues Brothers. I have lots of fond memories here at McKimmon but unfortunately too many to share.”
     – Cindy Allen, Program Coordinator, Office of Professional Development, McKimmon Center for Extension & Continuing Education, NC State University

“The McKimmon Center is the first place I had a computer course and the first time I used a computer with word processing software. Hugs and kisses to all of the staff – my first NC State family.”
     – Janet Howard, Director & USC Lecturer, Diversity & African American Affairs, NC State University

“Kudos to all involved in 30 years of successes!”
     – Denise Malloy Hubbard, Director of Development, Physical and Mathematical Sciences (PAMS) Foundation, NC State University
