Beyond Title IX: A History of Women and Sports in the U.S.

2022 marks the 50th anniversary of the enactment of Title IX, the law that prohibits discrimination in educational activities. Nowhere has its impact been greater than in the area of women's sports, opening the doors for countless female participants, while transforming the nation’s athletic landscape. This class will look at the changing nature of the relationship of women and sports, one that has impacted American culture in no small way. In moving from Ladies Day at the ballpark and running races that did not threaten a woman’s fragility to major league baseball general manager Kim Ng and female marathon runners, sports have provided clear evidence of what women can do if given the opportunity.
