Held in person at McKimmon Center: Fred Chappell’s 1989 novel of the same title as this course will keep us busy, chapter after chapter. Only one day long, this book could last several lifetimes, given all that Joe Robert Kirkman of western North Carolina does that day in May 1946. What more could be required of a schoolteacher? We will find out after he meets with the school board in the afternoon. You can easily purchase your new or used copy online. Jim Clark is a veteran OLLI teacher who also taught English at NC State for a very long time. He never had a day like Joe’s.
