The global apparel industry is valued at 3 trillion dollars and employs over 3.3 trillion people. Since the turn of the century, apparel consumption has increased over 400%. With increasing awareness of sustainability, much attention has been directed towards this industry including a focus on the environmental impact during production, care and after use and employee working conditions. This course will examine sustainability hotspots within the global apparel industry. Specific topics will include the events leading to sustainability investigations, the afterlife of clothes, microplastics and microfibers in our waterways, and the industry response.
