I Remember It Well -- Selections from the Career of Vincente Minnelli

From black-and-white to dazzling color, from spectacular musicals to searing melodramas, Vincente Minnelli’s decades-long directorial career produced 11 number-one films at the box office, two Best Picture winners, and a legacy that’s influenced filmmakers to this day. This course will examine some of the best-remembered and most-overlooked classics from the filmmaker for whom it was “all about the story,” including Meet Me in St. Louis (1944), The Pirate (1948), An American in Paris (1951), The Bad and the Beautiful (1952), Gigi (1958) and Some Came Running (1958) along with selections from his other works. Students are expected to rent/view the films outside of class.
