Lecture -- An Era of Conservatism on the U.S. Supreme Court?

Held in person at McKimmon Center: The appointment of Amy Coney Barrett to the U.S. Supreme Court has been cited as cementing a conservative majority on the Court.  Commentators have noted with anticipation and/or apprehension that Barrett will usher in an era of conservative jurisprudence (or at least conservative decisions). Interestingly, the Court has had a conservative majority for quite a while before Barrett’s appointment. This lecture will explore whether and to what extent did the five conservative justice majority dramatically move the Court to the right before the Barrett appointment. It seems that there was some disappointment among conservative commentators that the Roberts Court with five conservatives did not produce the conservative decisions that one would expect. Now that there is a six conservative justice bloc on the Court, what might we expect from the Court?
