Lecture -- Discovering African American Ancestry



This lecture is designed for the experienced genealogical researcher with an interest in tracing African American ancestry. It will help you understand the genealogy research process, including how to interpret the information you find. You will be guided through the search process for family names and how to organize information. We will explore African American research before 1870, such as wills, probates and deeds of slave owners. Topics that will be discussed include collecting and preserving materials, creating family tree charts and written publications, and using online search tools.
