Lecture -- Exploring the Real Martin Luther King, Jr.

What Martin Luther King, Jr. has come to represent often differs significantly from the actual man himself.  What were his future plans at the time of his assassination?  Who really knew him best? We will explore questions such as these. Dr. King openly represented himself to the public in some very intimate sermons. In re-listening carefully to sections of one of his particular sermons, in the context of his personal and professional life, this presentation seeks to illuminate the complexities of a distinguished and revered human being whose idealized, and sometimes appropriated, image keeps pushing the real man further away from our understanding.
