Lecture -- From All the President’s Men to Confidence Man: The Impact of Journalists’ Books on Political Culture

The Woodward and Bernstein 1974 book All the President’s Men is considered such an important book covering the Nixon administration and Watergate that it became the “news” as much as the events it covered. In recent years, dozens of prominent journalists have written books about Donald Trump and his administration. The question is: will any of these books have the impact of All the President’s Men? This session will cover the phenomenon of journalists publishing bestselling accounts of presidents. We will also have a discussion of two of the most recent and popular books: Peter Baker and Susan Glasser’s The Divider and Maggie Haberman’s Confidence Man.
