Lecture -- Making Music: Carolina Ballet’s Orpheus & Eurydice

Born at a back table at Caffe Luna in summer 2017, a libretto for Orpheus was hammered out by Robert Weiss and J. Mark Scearce the night before Scearce returned to Prague where he had relocated after Macbeth. That fall, 5,000 miles away, Scearce wrote the Orpheus score while inspiration struck for still another collaboration at the Mucha Museum. On Scearce’s repatriation, three ballets intervened before he and Weiss could return to Orpheus. Now, six years in the making, their retelling comes to the stage -- that classic story of the power of music, love, and loss: the ballet Orpheus & Eurydice.
