Lecture -- Modern Raleigh: 20th Century Architectural Design

Held in person at McKimmon Center: The NC State College (formerly School) of Design was established in 1948. In its early years, under the leadership of founding Dean, Henry L. Kamphoefner, the School of Design experienced a remarkable period of creative and intellectual development. Along with bringing Modernist and Bauhaus principles to the school, Kamphoefner recruited a team of like-minded faculty, notably Matthew Nowicki, George Matsumoto, Eduardo Catalano, Brian Shawcroft, and George Milton Small.  In having an architecture program in Raleigh, it comes as no surprise that the world-renowned architects connected to the College of Design continue to leave a beautiful mark on the City of Oaks.  Numerous pristine examples of mid-century modern homes and modern buildings are within walking distance of NC State University Campus.
