Lecture -- Space Travel: Fact or Fantasy?

Human space travel has been a constant theme in science fiction for as long as science fiction has been written. Factually, Americans landed on the moon over 50 years ago, and men and women from a number of nations have been in orbit around the Earth almost continuously since then. Now, however, there is increasing talk of manned missions to the moon and Mars, and even discussions of how humans could travel to planets around distant stars. This lecture will discuss the science (or lack thereof) behind travel to the stars and explore our current capabilities, as well as any conceivable future capabilities. The challenges facing manned missions to the moon or Mars will also be critically considered.
