Lecture -- The National Popular Vote Interstate Compact

For all but one of the over 500,000 elected offices in the United States the winner is the candidate with the most votes. The exception is the president of the United States. The League of Women Voters has supported direct election of the president since 1970 and the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact since 2010. Suzanne Fisher, president of the League of Women Voters Asheville-Buncombe County, will discuss the issues created by the “winner take all” method of voting, the effects of battleground states campaigning, and how the National Popular Vote both retains the Electoral College and ensures that every vote in every state will be relevant in every presidential election.
