Lecture -- The Underground Railroad In Eastern N.C.

Learn about the Underground Railroad, how it operated in eastern North Carolina, and what made it successful.  With documents, slave narratives, and "coded communication" such as songs and dance, you will gain an understanding of the various ways enslaved people made attempts to secure their freedom.  This lecture engages the class to join in some of the segments such as a hand-clapping game, or the singing of familiar hymns that conveyed coded messages to freedom seekers.
