Lecture -- Vinyl Records and the Evolution of Dance Music

The vinyl record format, and in particular what is known as the 12" single, played an intrinsic role in the evolution of dance music genres, from disco to house to techno and beyond. The techniques club DJs used to mix songs together to keep a dance floor going prompted significant changes in the way music was made. In this lecture, we'll explore the way dance music on vinyl evolved from the 1970s through the digital era, with a demonstration of the classic beat-matching technique that has become the standard for dance music today.
