Meditation and Yoga for Self-Discovery

Held in person at McKimmon Center: Yoga means union with consciousness and energy that pervades our mind, body, and universe. This course is based on Patanjali’s Yoga Sutra compiled nearly 2,000 years ago. Brief lectures and discussion will review eight steps to achieve yogic experience. The students will learn to gradually increase their ability to focus and meditate. Tangible benefits are better mental focus, improved physical health, and peace and tranquility. This is not a course on Yoga positions (Asana), which is only a small step in your path to self-discovery. Meditation can be practiced while sitting on a chair or on the floor. Although Hindus developed meditative yoga techniques in ancient India, they are universal and have been adopted by Buddhists, Muslims, Christians, Jews and even atheists/agnostics. Note: no previous experience with yoga is required to attend, but please only enroll if you are willing to participate in the physical and meditative portions of the course.

Recommended Reading (optional): The Yoga Sutra of Patanjali, Sri Swami Satchidananda; The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali,  Edwin F Bryant, Ph.D.
