Our Emotional Lives Workshop

The quality of our lives depends in large measure on how we create, manage, regulate and respond to our emotions. In this course, designed especially for older adults, we will explore how we make our emotions and what recent science tells us about how we can live productive and rewarding lives. How do we name and deal with “unpleasant” emotions like shame, guilt, grief, depression, and anxiety? How do we create and encourage “pleasant” emotions like gratitude, awe, contentment, and love? The quality of our relationships depends in large measure on how we express our emotions to others. Since each of us is different (we have different genes, desires, experiences, and worldviews), we will use in-class exercises, and work in small groups to explore what might work for each of us in promoting emotional well-being for ourselves, loved ones, friends and communities. Note: This hands-on course will depend heavily on class participation, so please enroll only if you are willing to actively participate.
