Psychedelics: Journey from Ancient Spiritual Practice to Modern Day Medicine

Human involvement in psychedelic substances goes back for thousands of years. This course will cover the history of psychedelics and their effect on the brain from both from a physiological and psychological viewpoint. We will focus on the primary psychedelics -- LSD (Acid), DMT (Ayahuasca), Psilocybin (Mushrooms) -- and the other dissociative psychedelics -- MDMA (Ecstasy) and Ketamine. We will review the new therapeutic uses of psychedelic substances for depression, PTSD, OCD, addiction, and anxiety. We will finish with a look at what the future holds.
