Radicalization of Religion for Political Gain

Held in person at McKimmon Center: What do we mean when we say something or someone has been “radicalized?” Terms like this are often used to invoke fear but are rarely adequately understood. In this four-part course, we will look at examples from various cultures, religions, and academia to give a working definition to the terms “radicalization” and “radical.”  We will then look at what might be categorized as radicalization within the context of the United States and how it affects our cultural, judicial, and political systems. We will look at both past and current events for reference. All perspectives are welcome.
