Socialism, Communism, Liberalism and Conservatism

Socialist, Communist, Conservative, and Liberal, are terms that came up frequently during the run up to the November 2020 elections.  However, these terms, which were and are used to describe or label someone's political philosophy, are often poorly understood and even used in a contradictory manner.  A political philosophy is complex and involves moral, social, and economic aspects.  Furthermore, these philosophies have evolved and changed over time. The dominant philosophy of a country has profound effects on the lives and wellbeing of its citizens. This course will present the key aspects of a political philosophy and discuss the major ones: Socialism, communism, liberalism and conservatism.
