Study Trip -- Dorothea Dix Park Walking Tour



Dorothea Dix Park has been called one of the most exciting public park projects in America today. This 308 acre site is in the process of being transformed into a central gathering space for Raleigh and the region at large. The three mile walking tour will cover parts of the long complex history of the site from pre-plantation, to plantation, to mental health hospital. Come see the beautiful site and become a part of making Dorothea Dix a park for everyone, built by everyone.

Note:  Wear comfortable walking shoes and dress for the weather on the day. Take a beverage to keep you hydrated. The trip will proceed rain or shine.

Includes: Transportation on NC State University bus, guided tour. If you find yourself unable to participate in this study trip, please contact the OLLI office, no substitutions are possible.

Depart: McKimmon Center at 8:45 a.m.

The bus will pick up outside the front entrance of the McKimmon Center a few minutes before departure. Please arrive in plenty of time to park your vehicle and meet the group. OLLI Special Programs Coordinator, Lindsey Hale, will meet you on arrival and will accompany the group on the study trip. You will receive a reminder email approximately one week before the date with further instructions on where to meet.

Return: Approximately 11:15 a.m.
