Via Zoom: This course will provide an overview of the styles of American architecture from the 1700s to 1950s, with an emphasis on Southern architecture. We will look at homes, churches, and institutional buildings, such as courthouses, college campuses, state capitols, and other significant structures. The course will include some special architects and few national landmarks may be included. Some of the information will be based on A Field Guide to American Houses by Virginia McAlister.
