Women and Power in Renaissance Italy

A woman shattered the political glass ceiling in 2021, when Senator Kamala Harris became Vice President of the United States. Yet, as this short course will explore, women have been testing, or perhaps troubling, the political waters for centuries. We will explore several examples of Renaissance women who used their wisdom, wealth, status, networks, dress, the visual arts and civic ritual, among other things, to challenge patriarchy and the political status quo.
