Lecture -- Raleigh's Role in the American Civil War

With the outbreak of war, Raleigh became the center of North Carolina's war effort. The city was transformed into a industrial, recruiting, and medical center. The city avoided the hardships of war until the final days when it faced destruction as two waring armies that threatened the capital. This course will explore Raleigh's role in America's most tragic conflict.
