Fasting has been used for thousands of years for health and religious reasons. Fasting has been shown to have many health benefits backed by science. This introductory lecture will aim to answer the following questions about the practice of fasting: Why have people been fasting for thousands of years? What are the metabolic and physiological basics? What are the advantages of fasting? What are the different types of fasting? Does fasting really help you to detoxify and rejuvenate? This lecture does not intend to provide personal medical advice or advocacy, but give an overview of the topic.
