This lecture will introduce you to the technology behind cryptocurrencies through an examination of Bitcoin. We will discuss what cryptocurrencies do and how they work, how cryptocurrency is “mined,” whether it is “secure” and “anonymous,” and finally discuss where its (perceived) value comes from. We will not discuss strategies or guidance on cryptocurrency speculation, which are out of the scope of this lecture.
