Spring Kick Off Lecture -- A Community Guide to Creating Public Art

Have you ever seen public art that you wished was in your community? Do you want to enhance your neighborhood identity with public art? Are you an artist who doesn't know how to move from a studio practice to a public practice? Are you interested in learning about how your community or organization can participate in public art? If these questions are meaningful to you, then be prepared to fly through a presentation on the ins and outs of creating public art guided by Raleigh's Public Art Director. Attendees will learn about current public art processes and ways to become more involved. For artists and community members interested in creating public art, the course will guide you through the process for creating public art, working with fabricators, community engagement and impact (the positive and negative), and best practices. Recommended reading links are more for fun than required, but each story offers different points of view on controversy, celebration, law and policy. Time will be left at the end of the course for questions and candid conversations about public art in Raleigh.  Refreshments will follow from 3:15 - 4:00pm

Note: This event is free and open to the public, but you must register.
