This fast-paced three-mile walking tour of Dorothea Dix Park will cover the long, complex history from before Spring Hill Plantation to the new Cultural Interpretive Plan. View new additions and see how the 308-acre Dorothea Dix Park aims to be for everyone, built by everyone.
Note: Wear comfortable walking shoes and dress for the weather on the day. Take a beverage to keep you hydrated. The trip will proceed rain or shine. Public Restrooms will be available.
Activity Level 3 - Be able to participate in 3-5 hours of daily physical movement, be able to stand or walk for over 2 hours with minimal opportunity for sitting, able to navigate stairs and inclines successfully.
** This study trip is not recommended for those utilizing mobility aids**
Includes: Transportation on NC State University bus, guided tour of park.
Depart: McKimmon Center at 9:45 a.m.
The bus will pick up outside the front entrance of the McKimmon Center a few minutes before departure. Please arrive in plenty of time to park your vehicle and meet the group. OLLI Special Programs Coordinator, Lindsey Hale, will meet you on arrival and will accompany the group on the study trip. You will receive a reminder email approximately one week before the date with further instructions on where to meet.
