NC State’s former vice chancellor for student affairs, Dr. Tom Stafford, will lead this informative tour of the university’s most recognizable symbol, the 115-foot tall Memorial Bell Tower, which was built as a monument to alumni killed in World War I. The Bell Tower has just undergone an extensive restoration project. In addition to visiting the marble Shrine Room inside the memorial, you will have the chance to see the recently restored carillon which plays the Bell Tower’s hourly toll. Even if you have visited before, you will want to see the finished project.
Notes: Be prepared to stand and walk for about 90 minutes as Dr. Stafford talks about the early history of the university and regales the group with some of the stories behind the Bell Tower.
Participants will be required to comply with all NC State University COVID-19 directives in place at the time of this study trip, which may include wearing a mask.
